DIY Wrist Clutch with Lace Trim

DIY Wrist Clutch Design by Lorine Mason

Simple foldover Wrist Clutch perfect for a pair of sunglasses, some lipstick and whatever else you might need on your next outing. Choose your favorite Decorative Trimmings and  dress up the the basic canvas fabric base. Slip the strap over your wrist and you are on your way.

Supplies for the DIY Wrist Clutch with Lace Trim:

  • Decorative Trimmings – Assorted
  • Canvas – 1/4 yard
  • Cotton print lining fabric – 1/4 yard
  • Medium weight fusible interfacing
  • Large snap fastener
  • 1 1/4 inch metal ring
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine
  • Basic Sewing, Measuring, Cutting and Pressing Tools & Supplies

How To make a DIY  Wrist Clutch with Lace Trim:

Using the pattern, cut out one clutch from the canvas fabric, a second from the lining fabric and a third from the fusible interfacing. To request a full size pattern, leave a comment at the bottom of this post asking for the pattern for the DIY Wrist Clutch with Lace Trim.

Iron interfacing to the back of the purse. Press fold lines across the width of the purse using the measurements provided. Stitch two rows of lace trim across the front of the purse, spacing them 1/2 inch apart. See Diagram A

Wrist Clutch

Stitch braided trim on top of the lace trim. Stitch a second piece of braided trim along the bottom edge, placing it 1 1/4 inch up from the bottom edge. With right sides together, fold the strap tab in half and stitch using a 1/4 inch seam. Turn right side out, press , then top stitch down either side. Fold in half and insert metal ring. See Diagram B

Cut a 2 inch by 12 inch strip. With right sides together, fold in half and stitch using a 1/4 inch seam. Turn right side out, press, then top stitch down either side. Fold in half, and insert metal ring. Stitch across the raw ends. Turn the strap inside out, sliding the seam next to the ring and top stitch across the end.  See Diagram C

Pin the strap to the bag front, attaching it 1/4 inch below the upper fold line. See Diagram D

Wrist Clutch

With right sides together, cover the purse front with the purse lining. Stitch around the outside edges, using a 1/2 inch seam and leaving a 4 inch opening along one side. Clip corners, turn right side out and press.  See Diagram D

Create the purse pocket by folding the bottom edge of the purse along the lower fold line. Top stitch around the outside edge of the purse; stitching 3/8 of an inch from the outside edges. Create the purse flap by folding the top edge of the purse along the upper fold line.   Follow the manufacturer’s directions to apply a snap closure to the purse front.  See Diagram E

Wedding Scape with Decorative Trimmings

Create an elegant wedding scape by combining burlap ribbon and Decorative Trimmings wide assortment of trims. The perfect setting for the new couple to enjoy their first meal together as Mr. & Mrs.

Supplies for Wedding Scape with Decorative Trimmings:

  • Decorative Trimmings Fantasy Trimmings
  • 4 & 6 inch wide burlap ribbon
  • Two 1/2 inch buttons
  • Two small wooden plaques
  • Alphabet stickers
  • Glue gun & glue sticks
  • Hole punch or small drill
  • Sewing machine
  • Basic sewing,  measuring, pressing and cutting tools & supplies

Decorative Trimmings Outdoor Wedding Scape Chair Bow

Mr & Mrs Name Plaque How To:

Apply stickers to the front of the plaques.

Drill two holes along the either side of the top edge of the plaques.

Insert cord trim through the holes and tie the ends together using an overhand knot.

Glue trim around the outside edge of each of the plaques.

Hang plaques from the center of each bow.

Chair Bow How To:

Cut two 2 1/2 yard lengths of 4 inch wide burlap ribbon for each bow.

Stitch trims to the burlap ribbon, starting at the center point and working your way to the edge of the ribbon. The number of trims will be determined by the width of each trim you have chosen.

Tie three loop bows with each length of the ribbon.

Napkin Ring How To:

Cut one 6 inch length of 4 inch burlap ribbon for each napkin ring.

Stitch trims to the burlap ribbon, starting at the center point and working your way to the edge of the ribbon. The number of trims will be determined by the width of each trim you have chosen.

Fold the burlap ribbon in half, right sides together and stitch using a 1/2 inch seam. Turn right side out.

Create a figure eight loop of trim. Glue the bow, topped with a button to the center top of the napkin ring.

Table Runner How To:

Determine the length of the table runner by measuring the table and adding the drop down each side. Add 2 inches to the measurement and cut a piece of 6 inch wide burlap this length.

In the sample project, trim was stitched 1 inch from either edge down the length of the ribbon. A second row of trim was then stitched along the inside edge of the first rows.

Fold each of the runner ends in half right sides together and stitch using a 1/2 inch seam. Turn right side out and press carefully, forming a point at each end.
