Fleece Fabric – 1/2 yard
Polyester Fiberfil Stuffing
Assorted colors of Polar Puff trim

How To:  Fun Flower Pillow with Polar Puff Trim

  1. Cut two 14” squares from Fleece
  2. Top stitch Polar Puff stems to pillow front.
  3.  Handstitch Polar Puff flowers to the pillow front.
  4. Stitch the pillow front to the pillow back, right sides together,
  5. leaving a 4” opening along one side. Clip corners.
  6. Turn right side out and press carefully.  Insert stuffing into the pillow.
  7. Hand stitch the side opening closed.

Wrap Polar Puff into a tight spiral until you have achieved the size desired. Cut Polar Puff and then using a needle and thread; stitch into the the back of the spiral to secure. Add a second color of Polar Puff continuing the spiral and stitching as you wrap.

Supplies for Fall Fringe Tote:

Faux Leather Fringe, Brown Two inches wide – Six & 1/2 Yards

  • Brown Canvas Duck – ¾ of a yard
  • Grommets – Two ¾ inch
  • Foam board or other Stiff Material for bottom of bag – 4 ½ inch x 17 inch rectangle
  • Thread
  • Basic Sewing, Pressing, Cutting & Measuring Tools and Supplies

How To for Fall Fringe Tote:

Cut the following from the duck fabric:

  • Tote Front: One 16 inch x 19 inch wide rectangle
  • Tote Sides & Back: One 16 inch x 28 inch rectangle
  • Straps: Two 4 inch x 32 inch rectangles
  • Top Binding: 2 ½ inch x 44 inch rectangle
  • Tassel Cord: 1 inch x 24 inch rectangle
  1. Fold each of the straps right sides together lengthwise and stitch along the unfinished edges. Turn right side out. Press, then topstitch down either side. Diagram A
  2. Lay the tote front on a flat surface and mark twelve lines, spacing them 1 inch apart, across the 18 inch width of the tote. Mark the first line 4 1/2” up from the bottom edge. Diagram B
  3. Starting at the line drawn closest to the bottom edge; lay faux leather fringe along the line and then stitch it in place. Repeat adding and stitching a row of fringe along each of the marked lines. Note: Always work from the bottom up towards the top of the tote. Diagram C
  4. With right sides together; stitch the tote front and back together along the sides. Diagram D
  5. Trim the faux leather fringe away from the seam. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Trim the opposite seam to ¼ inch. Lay the folded seam over top of the trimmed seam and top stitch. Diagram E
  6. With right sides together fold the tote in half and press a crease into the side seams. Stitch the bottom seam. Diagram F
  7. Fold the bottom of the tote so that the bottom seam aligns with the side creases and forms a point. Stitch across the point, using the side seams and crease line as a guideline. Diagram G
  8. Pin the straps to the top edge of the tote, spacing them 10 inches apart. Diagram H
  9. Turn under each of the ends of the binding strip ½ inch and press. Diagram I
  10. Pin the binding strip to the outside edge of the tote, centering the ends at the front of the tote.  Stitch using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Turn under the raw edge ½ inch, then fold the binding strip over the top edge of the tote, covering the seamline. Top stitch the binding strip in place. Diagram J
  11. Fold the strap up over the binding strip and top stitch to hold in place. Follow the manufacturer’s directions to apply two grommets to the center front of the tote along the binding strip. Diagram K
  12. Fold the tassel tie in half lengthwise, right sides out. Fold both the ends in towards the center fold. Press well. Topstitch down either side of the tassel tie. Insert the tassel tie through each of the grommets. Diagram L
  13. Cut two 6 inch lengths of faux leather trim. Using a needle and thread, wrap faux leather trim around the end of the tassel tie and stitch through all layers, continue wrapping and stitching until you come to the end of the fringe. Wrap the thread around the top of the tassel and stitch into the tassel to end. Trim threads. Repeat to create a tassel for the opposite end of the tie. Use project photo as a guide.

Instructions for Faux Leather FringeHalloween Cowboy Treat Bag:

All seams are 1/2” unless otherwise stated. Set your iron to the silk setting and always use a pressing cloth. Both sides of oly*fun™ can be considered the right side of the fabric, the choice really is yours to make, however be consistent for a more finished look. To receive a copy of the pattern leave a comment at the end of the post asking for the pattern and it will be sent to your email address. 

With right sides together, stitch along the length of the straps. Turn right side out. Press, then topstitch down either side. Cut in half. Diagram A

Pin the yoke sections on top of the front and back sections of the bag, matching the top edges of the bag. Diagram B

Pin faux leather fringe along the bottom edges of each of  the yokes. Top stitch along the top edge and then again ¼” below the first line of stitching. Trim the edge of the faux leather fringe even with the edges of the bag front and back. Top stitch ¼” up from the top edge of the trim. Diagram C

Fold each of the edges of the placket strip in to meet at the center back and press well. Center the placket down the center front of the bag and top stitch along either side. Diagram D

Pin the collar sections on top of the placket even with the top edge of the bag. Top stitch along both edges. Diagram E

Pin the Star cut out in place on the front of the bag and top stitch. Diagram F

Pin the sides to the back of the bag, right sides together. Stitch. Press the seam towards the side and top stitch 3/8” away from the seam line. Repeat stitching the sides to the bag front. Diagram G

With right sides together fold the bag in half and press a crease into the side seams. Stitch the bottom seam. Diagram H

Fold the bottom of the bag so that the bottom seam aligns with the side creases and forms a point. Stitch across the point, using the side seams as a guideline. Diagram I

Pin the straps to the top edge of the bag, spacing them 8” apart. Diagram J

Fold the binding strip in half right sides together and stitch forming a loop. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Diagram K

Pin the binding strip to the inside edge of the bag and stitch. Fold the binding strip over the top edge of the bag, covering the seamline. Top stitch the binding strip in place. Diagram L

Tie a knot at the center point of the neck tie. Center the neck tie over the collar and stitch in place. Sew buttons along the placket, collar points and at the center of the Star. Insert cardboard into the bottom of the bag. Diagram M

Purchased Fleece Hat or/create your own using a favorite pattern and fleece fabric
Fleece Fabric ( scarf ) – 1/4 yard
Assorted colors of Polar Puff Trim

How to:   Hat and Scarf Set with Polar Puff Trim

Cut two 54” x 5” strips. Trim ends at 45 degrees.

With right sides together, stitch the scarf front and back together using a 1/2” seam and leaving a 4” opening along one side. Clip corners.

Turn right side out and press carefully. Hand stitch the opening closed

Stitch Polar Puff trim 3/4 “ in from outside edges of the scarf, overlapping the ends.

Stitch Polar Puff trim to the right side of the hat’s bottom edge, overlapping the ends.

Roll the bottom edge of the hat back onto itself , forming a cuff.

Hand stitch Polar Puff flowers to the hat’s cuff, placing them slightly to one side of the center front.

Fleece Fabric – 1/2 yard each of two colors
Cotton Fabric for Lining – 1/2 yard
Grommets – Three 5/8”
Drawstring Cording – 3 1/2 yards

How to for DIY Drawstring BackPack featuring Polar Puff Trim:

Cut the following from Fleece & Lining Fabric:
Bag Front & Back
Two 15” by 17“ rectangles
Front Pocket #1
One 15” x 14” x 8”
Front Pocket #2
One 15” x 5” x12”
Lining Fabric Only:
Drawstring Channel
Two 4” x 14” rectangles

  1. With right sides together, place the pocket lining on top of the corresponding fleece pocket.  Stitch along the top seam line.
  2. Turn right side out and press carefully. Top stitch polar puff trim to the pocket fronts,using the project photo as a guide to placement.
  3. Layer Pocket 1 on top of the bag front, aligning it up with the sides and bottom edge of the bag front. Cover with Pocket #2 and pin.
  4. Top stitch a vertical line, starting at the point the pockets cross and stitching through all layers of the pockets and bag front. Following the manufacturer’s directions apply a grommet to the bag front.
  5. Layer the bag back on top of the bag front, right sides together. Stitch along the sides and bottom edges. Clip the corners. Turn right side out and press.
  6. Turn under the sides of the drawstring channel pieces 1” and top stitch. Fold each channel piece in half lengthwise right sides out and press.
  7. Pin each of the channel strips to the top edge of the bag back and front.
  8. With right sides together, stitch the bag lining pieces together along the sides and bottom edges leaving a 4” opening along the bottom edge.  Clip the corners.
  9. Insert the bag inside of the bag lining. Pin then Stitch along the top edge.
  10. Pull the bag through the opening at the bottom of the lining. Top stitch the opening  closed.
  11. Insert the lining down into the body of the bag. Top stitch 1/2” down from the top edge of each of the drawstring channels, as well as 1/2” below the bottom edge of the channels.
  12. Following the manufacturer’s directions; apply grommets to each corner of the bag.
  13. Cut the drawstring in half. Attach a large safety pin to one end of one of the drawstrings; thread it through the front and back channels, starting on the left side of the bag.  Repeat with the second drawstring starting on the right hand side of the bag. Adjust the cords so that they are even. Thread through the bottom grommets from front to back. Double knot the two cords together. Tie an overhand knot at the end of each of the cords to prevent fraying, then trim close to the knot.

How To Create Wedding Night Elegance with Decorative Trimmings

  • Measure the top sheet and edges of pillow cases and purchase enough trim. Be sure to allow for an overlap.  A queen size set of sheets requires approximately 6 yards of trim.
  • Pin trim to the sheet and top stitch in place. You will need to stitch along either edge of the trim to secure it properly for  laundering.
  • Repeat stitching trim to the pillow case edges.
  • On your home computer, type Mr and Mrs, choose a font and enlarge it to the size desired. In the case of the project samples a 300 point font was used. Print onto copy paper.
  • Using a light table, lay the pattern directly onto the surface and cover with the pillowcase. Draw the pattern onto the surface of the pillowcase.
  • Insert sheets of paper or newsprint and following the traced pattern, fill in the lines using the fabric paint following the manufacturer’s directions.

How To DIY Lace and Braid Key FOB:

Cut the following the Lace and Braid Trimmings: two 12 inch lengths of Cluny Lace Edge, one 12 inch length from each of the Chinese trim and Soutach.

Lay the two 12 inch lengths of cluny lace edge trim next to each other. See Diagram A

Press fusible tape to the wrong side of the Chinese Braid. Remove the paper backing from the tape and press the Chinese Braid on top of the two layers of the Crochet Trim.

Stitch the  Soutach down the center of the Chinese Braid.

Stitch down either side of the Chinese Braid.

Trim the ends of the lace if necessary and apply a thin layer of jewelry glue. Fold and insert into the clamp. Close with pliers. To project the finish of the Key Fob clamp, use a small cloth between the pliers and the Key Fob or wrap the pliers in tape.

Attach the ring to the Key Fob clamp.

  • Canvas – 1/4 yard
  • Cotton print lining fabric – 1/4 yard
  • Medium weight fusible interfacing
  • Large snap fastener
  • 1 1/4 inch metal ring
  • Thread

How To make a DIY  Wrist Clutch with Lace Trim:

Using the pattern, cut out one clutch from the canvas fabric, a second from the lining fabric and a third from the fusible interfacing. To request a full size pattern, leave a comment at the bottom of this post asking for the pattern for the DIY Wrist Clutch with Lace Trim.

Iron interfacing to the back of the purse. Press fold lines across the width of the purse using the measurements provided. Stitch two rows of lace trim across the front of the purse, spacing them 1/2 inch apart. See Diagram A

Stitch braided trim on top of the lace trim. Stitch a second piece of braided trim along the bottom edge, placing it 1 1/4 inch up from the bottom edge. With right sides together, fold the strap tab in half and stitch using a 1/4 inch seam. Turn right side out, press , then top stitch down either side. Fold in half and insert metal ring. See Diagram B

Cut a 2 inch by 12 inch strip. With right sides together, fold in half and stitch using a 1/4 inch seam. Turn right side out, press, then top stitch down either side. Fold in half, and insert metal ring. Stitch across the raw ends. Turn the strap inside out, sliding the seam next to the ring and top stitch across the end.  See Diagram C

Pin the strap to the bag front, attaching it 1/4 inch below the upper fold line. See Diagram D

With right sides together, cover the purse front with the purse lining. Stitch around the outside edges, using a 1/2 inch seam and leaving a 4 inch opening along one side. Clip corners, turn right side out and press.  See Diagram D

Create the purse pocket by folding the bottom edge of the purse along the lower fold line. Top stitch around the outside edge of the purse; stitching 3/8 of an inch from the outside edges. Create the purse flap by folding the top edge of the purse along the upper fold line.   Follow the manufacturer’s directions to apply a snap closure to the purse front.  See Diagram E

  • Tea Towels

  • Fabric marking pen and ruler
  • Coordinating thread
  • Sewing Machine
  • Straight pins
  • Basic sewing, cutting and pressing tools
  • Fabric glue – optional

How to Upcycled Tea Towels:

Using a stitch ripper, remove the hem stitching along the sides of the towel. Note: It is only necessary to remove stitching in areas where you intend to add rows of trim.  Press the side hems flat.

Measure across the width of the towel, and cut lengths of trim using this measurement.

Using a ruler and a marking pen; draw lines across the width of the towel, perpendicular to the hemline to indicate where trim will be attached.

Lay trim along the drawn lines and stitch using a coordinating color of thread.

Stitch trim along the bottom edge of the towel.

Refold, press and sew the side seams back into place.

Note: Fabric glue may be used instead of sewing. Follow the manufacturer’s directions to apply the glue. The use of glue is suggested for towels used for decorative purposes only.  If you intend to glue the trim make sure the glue is designed to be washed.

A free T Shirt Makeover idea for you.   Taking something as simple as a basic black t shirt and turning it into an elegant bolero jacket is quite simple. Choosing the right trim might prove difficult as the options are quite varied. Which is your favorite?

Supplies for T Shirt Makeover:

  • T shirt
  • Decorative Trim – Venice Lace Embroidery
  • Double wide bias tape in coordinating color
  • Fusible hem tape – ½” wide
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine
  • Basic sewing, measuring, cutting and pressing tools & supplies

How To  DIY T Shirt Makeover:

Referring to the diagram ; trim the length of the T shirt, cut the front opening and remove the neckline binding. Cut a 1” strip from the excess length of the T shirt material.

T shirt Makeover

With right sides together, open one edge of the bias binding and stitch along the neckline edge, being careful not to stretch the neckline. Sew along the fold of the bias binding. Turn the binding to the inside of the T shirt and top stitch along the opposite edge of the binding.

Press hem tape to the inside edges of the T shirt along the front and bottom edges. Turn the hem tape over to the inside of the T shirt and press. Remove the paper backing from the hem tape and press well to secure a hem along the front and bottom edges of the T shirt.

Stitch trim to the right side of the T shirt along the front and neckline edges of the T shirt in one continuous length, turning the corner at the front edges of the neckline. Use project photo as a guide.

Stitch trim to the bottom hemline of the T shirt, turning under the ends of the trim along the front edges and stitching to secure.

Measure the circumference of the sleeve hemline and cut two pieces of trim this length plus 1”. With right sides together stitch each of the trim pieces together using a ½” seam. Slide the trim over the bottom hem of the T shirt sleeve and top stitch in place.

Using the 1” strip cut earlier, pull the two ends of the strip taught so that the edges roll towards the center. Cut two lengths and tie bows of a desired size. Hand stitch bows to the sleeves.
